Man sentenced for Human Trafficking in Michigan

A man from Sterling Heights has pleaded guilty to recruiting a minor for commercial sexual activity.

35-year-old Andrew Golden pleaded guilty in Oakland County Circuit Court on 30th March. He has been charged with one count of human trafficking of a 17-year-old, Attorney General Bill Schuette's office announced on Monday.

In a statement Schuette said that they have had so much activity from the human trafficking unit over the past several weeks, “we can make no mistakes”, he said. Human Trafficking is happening in Michigan.

"We can't ignore the crime happening not just in our cities, but in our small towns as well."

The agency operated by the FBI “Southeast Michigan Trafficking and Exploitation Crimes task force”, received information about an incident of sex trafficking of a minor in Southfield on Dec. 13, 2016.

A 15-year-old teen girl, who was found in Pennsylvania earlier that week, reported that she was abducted several weeks prior in New Jersey by Golden, who asked her and a 17-year-old that he would be taken them to Michigan to be offered online for commercial sex, according to Schuette’s office.

On December 14, last year agents found a description of the teen in an online advertisement for "adult entertainment: escorts."

The agents decided to go undercover to retrieve the minor the same day; they arrested Golden at a Southfield hotel, according to Schuette's office.
Golden’s final judgment is scheduled on April 24. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in jail.
