An Indian-origin man was shot in the Detroit after being mugged by three suspected robbers.

The victim, identified as Sai Krishna, remains critical and continues to battle for his life.

Krishna, hailing from Telangana, will undergo multiple surgeries in order to recover from his injuries.

According to Krishna's friend Srujith, the incident took place at around 11:30 p.m. (U.S. time) when he was returning from work. The robbers first stopped, barged in his car and made him drive to a deserted place. After that, they robbed his car, wallet and other belongings leaving him on an empty street in freezing temperature.

"Someone passing by saw him on the road and informed the authorities. An ambulance reached the spot and took Sai Krishna to the hospital," he added.

Demanding justice, Srujith said Krishna is very underprivileged and has struggled a lot to move to the United States for a better future.

For funding hospital expenses, Srujith and few other friends of Krishna have sought help from GoFundMe, a crowdfunding website under the name 'Support Sai Krishna.'

The account has already been funded with 100,000 dollars while a target has been set for 250,000 dollars.

Akin inhumane attacks have been taking place in the U.S. on Indians, while in this case there is no still evidence to suspect that it was a hate crime.
