Air Asia CEO and others Charged over Violating International Flying Licenses

The Central Bureau of Investigation has recorded a case against Air Asia Group Chief Executive Officer Tony Fernandes and else over alleged violation of norms for acquiring international flying licenses.

According to officials, the suit associate to alleged violation of norms by directors of aviation company for relaxation of 5/20 rules in the sector of aviation to acquire licenses for international dealings, as well as violation of Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB).   

The 5/20 rules mean that a company inevitably need five years of experience and 20 aircraft to become eligible for the licence.

Besides Tony Fernades, Travel Food Services owner Sunil Kapoor, Air Asia director R. Venkatraman, Aviation consultant Deepak Talwar, Director of Singapore based SNR Trading Rejendra Dubey and anonymous public servants have been named in First Information Report (FIR).

The investigation is going on at six locations in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, the officials said.

Air Asia Group CEO Tony Fernandes allegedly lobbied government servants for clearances, dismissal of existing 5/20 rule of aviation and modification in regulatory policies, the agency has alleged.
