In a spree of crime against Indian community in the United States an Indian-American doctor has been shot dead, in what it is being described as “under mysterious circumstances.”

32-year-old Ramesh Kumar, who worked at the Urology Department of the Henry Ford Hospital, was found dead in the passenger seat of a rest area, about 90 miles out of Detroit, Michigan on May 4.

Investigators are working to ascertain the cause of his death.

Kumar’s family members said that they do not suspect anyone and also ruled out the possibility of it being “Hate crime.”

The victim’s father, Narendra Kumar, who is the former president of the influential American Association of Physicians of Indian-origin, said that he does not know the reason for his son’s murder. The police are yet to find out.

"We do not suspect anything. We do not think it was a hate crime," said a shocked Kumar.

Ramesh completed his graduation in medicine from the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences in Kochi, Kerala.

When Ramesh did not show up at the hospital, a colleague called his father to enquire about him.

"This was quite unusual," the father said.

He made several calls and sent messages to his son, but there was no response.

Narendra Kumar then went to his son’s apartment and reported to the police when he did not find him there.

After a long search, police found a dead body in the passenger seat of a car at a rest area.

Later, the body was identified as that of Ramesh.

The police did not make any comments about the case.

There has been a surge in hate crimes against the Indian communities in the Unites States after
Donald Trump came into the power.

In February, a US Navy veteran, Adam Purinton shot and killed Indian techie Srinivas Kuchibhotla and critically injured his friend Alok Madasani before yelling "get out of my country."

In early March, Harnish Patel was found dead of gunshot wounds in the front year of his home in South Carolina.

In Florida, an Indian-American family's store was almost burnt to the ground and many more have been harassed and threatened.
