5-year-old tops “Doodle4Google” in Michigan

5-year-old Marcus Zheng at the private school in Bloomfield Hills has won the popular Google’s competition "Doodle4Google".

Marcus learned this week that his doodle has been chosen to represent Michigan in the national contest. The announcement came on Monday at the school assembly, which included his parents, teacher and fellow students.

Director Jennifer Bullock said that It's such an honor ... I knew he had amazing talent," Bullock said. "I was very surprised when I got the call, because he's at the younger end of the contest."

The search giants sponsor the competition every year in an effort to come up with new doodles, which the company uses on its website to mark occasions or accomplishments.

His father Zheng Yi and mother Cathy Guo watch Marchus draw nearly every day, but the news of him winning the “Doodle4Google” caught them by surprise.

"He loves drawing. ... If we don't stop him, he'll draw all day long," Cathy Guo said of her son. "I was shocked when I heard the news. We didn't expect it ... we're very proud."

The contest follows a different theme every year, this year it was “What I See For The Future”. The only rule was the doodles must incorporate the company’s name: Google.

Google folks said kids of all ages have won the competition before. But, a kindergartner top an entire state full of older artists is little unusual.

"We have all ages win," said Justin Yang, a marketing manager for Google who made Monday's presentation along with account manager Aashka Soni. "But it's definitely a challenge for a 5-year-old to win."

Now the fate of Marcus's entry is up you. Winners will be determined in an online vote at that closes at 5 p.m., Monday, March 6.

The winner of the contest gets a $30,000 scholarship and will also earn a $50,000 technology grant for the school.

Even, If Marcus’s doodle wins the whole contest it will not not necessarily surprise Bullok.

"I've admired his artwork," Bullock said. "If I was going to pick anyone to (win), it would be Marcus."

Michigan is better state than Ohio
