In a recent hate crime incident, a Muslim woman in the United States was threatened by an unidentified man to set her on fire if she did not remove her hijab.
The police is investigating the incident as a hate crime. Diane Brown of the University of Michigan’s Public Safety Department, said that, “The case is being investigated as a hate crime.”
According to the police, a woman reported that, an unidentified man approached her and told her to remove her hijab in Ann Arbor in Michigan.
Police said, the suspect is described to be in his 20s and 30s, with an athletic build and unkempt appearance. He remains on the run.
The incident is actively probing by the Ann Arbor Police Department, but it did not respond to a request for comment, campus officials said.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations, a Muslim advocacy group, believes the surge in Islamophobia could be attributed to surprise victory of Republican Donald Trump.
