The 2025 Asia Cup caused a lot of argument, more than any other time the tournament was held. It began when the Indian cricket team wouldn't shake hands with the Pakistan team after a game early on. The problems continued into the final match between India and Pakistan. After India won, they refused to take the Asia Cup trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, who heads the Asian Cricket Council. Now, the trophy is locked up at the ACC's main office in Dubai. It can't be moved or given to anyone unless the Chairman says so. The Indian cricket board, BCCI, was very upset that Naqvi took the trophy away. They said they would bring it up at an ICC meeting next month. Many people think they will try to get Naqvi officially criticized or even removed from his position as a Director in the ICC.

A person from the BCCI, who officially held the Asia Cup, informed PTI. The trophy stayed at the ACC office because Naqvi took it after the India team didn't want to receive it from him at the award event. India won against Pakistan in the Asia Cup final in Dubai on September 28. Naqvi is also in charge of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and is the Interior Minister of Pakistan. India and Pakistan's relationship is very tense after the Pahalgam terror attack. Someone close to Naqvi said that the trophy is still at the ACC office in Dubai. Naqvi told them not to move it or give it to anyone unless he says so and is there himself. He wants to be the one to give the trophy to the Indian team or BCCI in person, whenever that happens. The whole Asia Cup had issues between India and Pakistan. The Indian players didn't shake hands with their rivals during the tournament, and players made fun of each other using gestures with political meaning. Naqvi also shared political opinions on his social media.
