Parts of Michigan still under floodwater

Against the back of David Sherman's house in Grandville, flood waters from Buck Creek were still chest-high Friday.  The 79-year-old wasn't sure what he would do, since the home's furnace, a freezer, refrigerator, dryer and water heater all are submerged in several feet of water.

"We don't have flood insurance. I called the insurance company and they said we weren't covered for this," he said. Sherman's home along Canal Avenue SW, near Chicago Drive, was among several homes and businesses in Grandville with flood damage from Buck Creek and the Grand River. Yards behind several Canal Avenue homes had become a lake.

Meanwhile, the chaotic weather conditions in the Muskegon area may have subsided by Friday afternoon, but floodwater is still a concern. Newaygo County Emergency Services Director Abby Watkins said the Muskegon River is still causing flood problems. "We have 10 subdivisions that are impacted. Some have water in their homes," she said.  Muskegon County has fewer problems with flooded homes, but the river level remains high in the county and is still a concern.
