India Actor Anupam Kher, who was appointed the chairman of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), in October earlier this year, has resigned from his position.

"It has been an honor, a privilege, and a great learning experience to be the chairman of the prestigious @FTIIOfficial. But, because of my international assignments, I won't have much time to devote to the institute. Hence, I decided to send my resignation. Thank you," he wrote on Twitter, with a screenshot of the letter he sent to the minister of information and broadcasting.

In the letter, he says that he had informed then minister Smriti Irani, when she approached him with the chairman appointment, about a previous commitment. "At the time I was officially approached by the former I&B Minister, Smriti Irani, to be appointed as the chairman, I did share with her that I was due to be stationed in the United States for nearly six months for an international television show. The latest news now is that the show has been given a further extension of four months. This translates into me being stationed in the U.S. for nearly nine months between 2018 and 2019, and then for a similar period for a minimum of three years more," he writes in the letter.

His resignation letter has reportedly been accepted by Rathore, who thanked Kher for his services to the premier institute.
