Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in India Thursday on a two-day visit to hold the annual bilateral summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj received Putin, who is accompanied by a high-level delegation.

In the 19th India-Russia Annual Bilateral Summit, which will take place on Friday, Modi and Putin are expected to review bilateral defense cooperation in the wake of the United States sanctions against Russian defense majors.

The two leaders are as well likely to deliberate on key regional and global issues, including the U.S. sanctions on the import of Iranian crude oil.

During the visit, the chief focus will be on the S-400 Triumf air defense missile system agreement, with a top Kremlin aide saying Tuesday that Russian President Putin will supervise the signing of the $5 billion deal.
