BCCI Announces, Toss Coin Minted With Mahatma Gandhi And MandelaCricket

The BCCI has announced a toss coin specially-minted with the images of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the nation, and Nelson Mandela for the India-South Africa cricket series, commemorating the 146th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on 2 October 2015.

In a statement from BCCI, it said, “The toss coin in gold bears a impression of Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela as ‘Heads’ and the Freedom Series as ‘Tails’.”

The 20 grams gold-plated sterling silver coin is especially designed for the Freedom Series The coin will be used by India and South Africa for all the formats of cricket played between the countries in India.

BCCI Secretary Anurag Thakur, Indian captain MS Dhoni and South African captain Faf du Plessis have launched the coin at the start of the first T20 match between India and South Africa at Dharamsala.

Anurag Thakur said, “This is our small way to pay homage to Gandhiji as we celebrate his 146th birth anniversary. Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela proved to the world that freedom could be achieved through the path of non-violence, a true symbol of peace, truth and harmony,”

“This coin will keep reminding everyone about the teachings of both the great leaders and also the strong bond India and South Africa share historically,” Thakur added.
