Liya, a stray pup, who until a few days ago wheedled for food in the trash of Shyamli Colony, has finally found a shelter in the loving arms of Indian Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and wife, Sakshi.

Dhoni, who is vacationing back home in Ranchi now, tweeted: "Adopted a rescued pup from Hope and Animal Trust Ranchi. v (We) call her Leah in English and Liya in Hindi".

Dhoni’s family affirmed the news.
In the past nine months, the dog-loving captain has lost three pets — while Zoya (a Weimaraner) and Zara (a black Labrador) died in June, Sam (a mixed German Shepherd), Dhoni’s favorite passed away in December last year.

Praveen Ohal, secretary and founder of Hope and Animal Trust, Ranchi, said the pup was rescued from a waterlogged ditch at Mecon Colony (Shyamli) in June this year.
"It was soaked and shivering in the cold when I spotted it with an adult dog as it scampered around the road. I picked it up and transported it to our shelter in Khunti," he said.

Ohail’s trust works for elimination of rabies by controlling population of stray dogs and also rescues injured and ailing dogs for treatment.
